Fatemeh Rahbar, a newly elected member of the Iranian Parliament, died from the novel coronavirus on Saturday, Tasnim reported.

After testing positive for coronavirus, Rahbar was taken to a hospital in Tehran a few days ago.

When her health worsened, she had to be connected to a medical ventilator.

Rahbar had been elected from Tehran in the recent parliamentary election.

The first known female politician to die from the coronavirus in Iran, Rahbar was a member of the Islamic Coalition Party, a conservative political party.
