Growth of productivity and the introduction of innovations are the main goals of the five-year state strategy on small and medium-sized businesses in Armenia. This is what Deputy Minister of Economy of Armenia Naira Makaryan told reporters today, stating that the strategy will be approved by the government soon.

According to her, the strategy envisages a comprehensive list of actions targeted at accessibility of financial resources and the capacity-building of export. The deputy minister also stated that the implementation of the strategy will lead to increase of the level of competitiveness and productivity of small and medium-sized enterprises. “The government expects to see 6% annual growth of productivity of small and medium-sized enterprises,” she said.

When asked if the strategy won’t lead to enlargement of businesses and reduction of small and medium-sized enterprises, the deputy minister recalled that, according to the law, large companies must have more than 250 employees, and the majority of small and medium-sized enterprises are very far from those indicators.
