There has been no essential change in the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. This is what political scientist Alexander Markarov told reporters today, adding that the positions of the conflicting sides remain unchanged.

“The Armenian side believes the people of Nagorno-Karabakh have the right to independence, while Baku believes the issue of Karabakh must only be discussed and considered by taking into consideration the principle of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity,” Markarov explained.

According to him, the process of negotiations is important for the sides from the perspective of the real desire to settle the conflict since everyone knows that there is no military solution for the conflict.

Talking about Baku’s attempts to engage the so-called ‘Azerbaijan community of Karabakh’ in the process of negotiations, the analyst stated that this was unequivocally expected since it is Baku’s response to the Armenian side’s more powerful statements on the need to bring Karabakh back to the negotiation process.
