The US and Canada have agreed to temporarily close the common border for minor trips to stop the spread of coronavirus, US President Donald Trump tweeted.

“We will be, by mutual consent, temporarily closing our Northern Border with Canada to non-essential traffic. Trade will not be affected,” Trump tweeted.

Complete closure of the border would cause serious economic damage to both the US and Canada, given the integration of the two economies. Most food supplies to Canada come from or through the US. About 18% of US exports go to Canada. The US accounts for 75% of Canadian exports.
