The Armenian community in the Czech Republic organized a number of large-scale events to mark the 96th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.
Hakob Asatryan, Editor of the Orer (Days) Armenian European magazine published in Prague, informed Armenian News-NEWS.am that the Archbishop of Prague addressed a letter to the organizers, expressing his willingness for further cooperation.
The commemorative events raise public awareness of the Armenian Genocide in Ottoman Turkey, Asatryan said. As regards any statements at the government level, Asatryan said that the Czech Republic has close ties with Turkey, which is the reason why it avoids mentioning the problem.
On April 24, a commemoration meeting was held at the Prague city library. The meeting was followed by the demonstration of the documentary "Grandchildren`s response" by Artyem Yerkanyan. Also, an exhibition of works by Armenian painters was held at the GH Art Gallery.
