The appointment of the chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia was based on the merits of his service. This is what Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan said during a question-and-answer session with government officials in parliament today.

Deputy of the Bright Armenia Party Arkady Khachatryan asked the Prime Minister what the personal and professional criteria were for appointing Onik Gasparyan chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Argishti Kyaramyan director of the National Security Service and Vahe Ghazaryan police chief. In response, Pashinyan stated that the appointment of the new director of the National Security Service was based on the work he did while performing the duties of director of the State Supervision Service and that the appointment of the police chief was based on the work he performed as commander of the police troops.
