The old judges of the Constitutional Court of Armenia need to be changed and shouldn’t wait until their powers terminate, in accordance with the old Constitution. This is what Minister of Justice Rustam Badasyan declared during a discussion on the bill on making amendments to the Constitution in parliament today.

Badasyan recalled that the powers of the new members of the Constitutional Court elected after 2018 are limited to 12 years. Simultaneously, the powers of old judges are enshrined by the old procedure, that is, they can serve until the age of 60. Badasyan stated that the old judges can wait until the whole composition of the Constitutional Court is changed, but that will take another 20 years, and this will stand in the way of implementing the Constitution.
