YEREVAN. – Over last two years positive changes were observed with wider availability of the Internet in am area. Armenian content is increasing as new websites open.
However, increase in the number of websites is not accompanied by growing number of visitors and visits to sites. Thus, we can assert there is Armenian content but there are no users. Internet users in Armenia prefer foreign sources. There are several reasons but the main is Armenia does not develop the idea of integration into a network of sites.
Businessmen or companies consider ordering a website is enough. They inform several people about a website asking them to tell their friends. As a result, considerable part of resources in am zone is visited by 50-100, at best about 500, users a day. Some attempts to promote a website have recently been done via Facebook but it is too little.
It is very difficult to make user remember and type the name of a website in browser. It is even harder “to force” users to remember not only the name, but also address of the relevant page (URL).
Owners of websites usually find the following solution: traffic exchange when information blocs with content of external resources are posted on a website.
A similar system has recently been created in Armenia providing exclusively Armenian content.
In an interview with Armenian News - NEWS.am, creator Ludwig Makhyan noted that xNet.am has already returned 243% of traffic directed to it after 4 day work.
“Those willing to register in the system are to decide which part of their content they would like to submit to other resources. They post a picture and a title,” he said adding 20 websites have been registered so far.
According to him, such systems increase traffic of the participating sites by 30-40%.
