The trial of former South African President Jacob Zuma has been adjourned until September 8, Reuters reported.

Zuma is being investigated on 16 charges on a $2 billion arms deal with French defense firm Thales in 1999 when he was deputy president.

The first corruption investigation was launched against Jacob Zuma back in 2005 when his financial adviser Schabir Shaik was sentenced to 15 years in prison by a South African court.

Numerous cases on charges of Jacob Zuma were either closed by the judiciary or reopened. In May 2009, Jacob Zuma was elected president of South Africa, and five years later in the spring of 2014, he was re-elected to a second term. However, in February 2018, he was forced to resign under pressure over corruption allegations.
