Built in 1830, the St. George Armenian Church is still used as storage in the Turkish city of Corum.

According to the Turkish Gazeteduvar, the St. George Armenian Church of Corum is abandoned since representatives of Corum’s Tourism and Culture Department don’t acknowledge it as a church.

Although it sounds ridiculous, the church’s owner Ferhat Shamlin says his ancestors found this historic building. “They say this used to be a church. We wanted to repair it and use it according to its designated purpose, but we weren’t allowed. It is currently used as a storage,” Ferhat Shamlin said.

Representatives of the Tourism and Culture Department of Corum claim that there is no evidence that the historic structure was a church.

However, the locals remember very well that it was a church and stress that the city will have another beautiful structure, if it is repaired as a church.
