Yerevan relies on Russia’s mediation efforts to regulate the escalation on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border. This is what Ambassador of Armenia to Russia Vardan Toghanyan told TASS.

“The Embassy of Armenia in Russia also relies on Russia’s efforts. Today the spokesperson of the President of Russia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued statements stating that Russia may exert efforts to stop the events taking place on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border. We rely on the response of our colleagues of the Collective Security Treaty Organization since this concerns a sector of Armenia’s border that has also been acknowledged by the member states of the CSTO.”

The Ambassador also stated that Turkey’s aggressive statements are also making the situation complicated. In response to the possibility of presenting the situation to the UN Security Council for consideration, he stated that Yerevan first and foremost anticipates actions from the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs.

“The only legal international mandate is given to the OSCE Minsk Group, and all three countries of the UN Security Council, including Russia, the U.S. and France, are participants in the process. We have already read the responses of Russia, the U.S. and France, and negotiations are underway, and yesterday the Armenian and Azerbaijani foreign ministers talked to the Russian foreign minister. I believe this issue is addressed to the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs,” Toghanyan concluded.
