The reality of recent days makes us believe that Baku has chosen the military option of settling the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict by openly attacking Armenia, said the mayor of the French city of Valence Nicolas Daragon.
"We are very concerned about the situation of our Armenian friends and especially our sister city of Ijevan," he noted.
"In this region, which is a real powder keg, subject to the whims of peace talks on a peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict, any forceful action can plunge everyone into chaos," he noted.
"A few days ago, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev spoke about the war in the context of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict's settlement. The reality of recent days makes us believe that Baku has chosen a military option for resolving the conflict by openly attacking Armenia."
"I strongly condemn the Azerbaijani aggression against Armenia and the violation of the borders established and recognized by international law, which is an act that must be condemned."
"I hope that our national authorities will demand that Baku stop its military operations against Armenia, and I hope that the international community will decisively oppose this aggression, which could overturn the unstable balance in the South Caucasus region."
"The last international summit of the French-speaking countries was held in Armenia - the country with which France has historically had the closest ties. The inaction of our country would be an unacceptable signal of tolerance for aggression," he concluded.
