Former Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir will face trial on July 21 on charges of the military coup that brought him to power more than three decades ago, AFP reported.

Bashir, 76, who is already behind bars on corruption charges, could face death if convicted of the 1989 coup against the government of PM Sadek al-Mahdi.

Sudan has also pledged to transfer Bashir to the International Criminal Court to stand trial on war crimes and genocide charges over the conflict in Darfur that left 300,000 people dead.

Bashir will be in the dock with 10 military personnel and six civilians, including his former vice presidents Ali Osman Taha and Bakri Hassan Saleh, as well as former ministers and governors.
