After talks with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif today, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov told reporters that Russia doesn’t see any ground for extending the arms embargo against Iran, TASS reports.

“The United Nations Security Council literally hasn’t set any arms embargo against Iran. The United Nations Security Council set an admissible regime for supplying certain types of arms to Iran for a limited period, which expires in October. There is no legal, political or moral ground for any attempt to take advantage of the situation to extend this regime, much less for setting a termless arms embargo. Russia’s position is clear — we are against such attempts and don’t see any ground for successful attempts,” Lavrov emphasized.
