Successful talks between Yerevan and Baku are possible only if the parties pursue the same goals, Armenian Ambassador to Lithuania Tigran Mkrtchyan said in an interview with LRT radio, commenting on Azerbaijan's aggression against Armenia.

"We believe that the talks should be based on the solutions proposed by the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs, which Armenia welcomed, but Azerbaijan has always rejected them in one form or another," he noted.

"Another reason is revenues from oil, which is used to purchase large quantities of military equipment from Azerbaijan. This has created in this country the idea that the Azerbaijani leaders can solve this conflict by military means. The time has come for everyone, and especially for Azerbaijan, to understand that there is no military solution to the conflict," he said.

The diplomat also noted the destructive role of Turkey in these processes. 

"This time theirs was unprecedentedly aggressive, unlike the rest of the international community, including Lithuania, which calls for a peaceful settlement of the conflict and adherence to the ceasefire agreement signed by Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Artsakh. Despite these calls, Turkey is adding fuel to the fire. This poses a serious threat, given that Azerbaijan is targeting our civilian facilities and threatens to blow up a nuclear power plant in Armenia. This is an unprecedented threat that looks like nuclear terrorism," he noted.

According to him, it is important not only to ensure compliance with the ceasefire agreement and international obligations but also to allow international observers on both sides of the border and the line of contact.
