YEREVAN. - Gas price goes up in Armenia, reaching AMD 460 per liter ($1.23) - AMD 10 up - for regular and AMD 480 per liter ($1.3) for premium brand.

Unofficial sources say initially the gas wholesalers intended to raise the gas prices to AMD 15-20 but raised to AMD 10 only to avoid the stir.

At the same time, gas prices in international market dropped since May 1st. International market price, however, does not have an influence on gas prices in Armenia. According to observers, the price for regular brand is likely to reach AMD 500 in the nearest future.

Armenian News-NEWS.am tried to reach the companies that are engaged in petrol trade in Armenia and ask them to comment on the situation. The Vice-president of “Flash” company Mushegh Elchyan refused to respond, voicing his suspicions about the identity of the journalist, before the latter even posed the question.

The Press Service of “Mika Corporation”, another petrol trading company, stated that the imports of their company are quite insignificant and do not affect the pricing policy of the country.

The National Committee for Protection of Economic Competition also follows the developments in the market. The monitoring group has been studying the prices for petrol and will summarize the study in the coming days, the Committee informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.
