Vice-President of the Boxing Federation of Armenia Ruslan Baghdasaryan and members of the Federation today visited boxer, world champion Israel Hakobkokhyan, who is on a hunger strike near the statue of Garegin Nzhdeh in Yerevan.

“We support Hakobkokhyan, but we are also asking him to choose another way of leading his struggle since the hunger strike will destroy his health, and we really need him by our side,” Baghdasaryan said.

Another boxer and a friend of Hakobkokhyan said the latter has fought on the battlefield and in the ring, but has never shown anyone that he is a veteran of the Nagorno-Karabakh war. “The most important thing is that we support our friend and want him to stop the hunger strike soon and lead the battle in a different way since his health is very important for all of us,” he said.

Hakobkokhyan said he is doing this because he cares about not only his children, but also all Armenian children. “The aim of my hunger strike is to see politicians gather and think about what they can do to get Armenia out of the current stupid situation,” he said.

World boxing champion Israel Hakobkokhyan has been on a hunger strike since August 12 and is against the policy led by the current authorities which, in his opinion, are violating the national values of the Armenians. He is also protesting against ratification of the Istanbul Convention and the Lanzarote Convention, the opening of Amulsar gold mine, etc.
