Lebanese president Michel Aoun opposes the creation of an international commission to investigate the Beirut blast but allows foreign investigators to participate in it.

According to him, because of this incident, he was not going to resign early, RIA Novosti reported.

The Lebanese constitution requires the judicial system to investigate internal issues on its own. This does not exclude the presence of French, America,  and other investigators who are already helping the Lebanese police, the president said in an interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera.

Speaking about the causes of the explosion, Aoun reiterated the thesis that now none of the versions of what happened is ruled out, although an accident is most likely.

Besides, Aoun categorically rejected the theory that the explosion took place at a Hezbollah weapons depot, which in turn led to a larger explosion of ammonium nitrate.

The president also ruled out the possibility of his early resignation, adding that new elections in Lebanon could be held within a year or six months.
