The presidential elections in Belarus were not ideal, and the Belarusian leadership recognizes this, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov noted.

The statements of the Baltic countries, Poland, and the European Parliament about the situation in Belarus are exclusively geopolitical. "What we now hear from European capitals, primarily from the Baltics, but also from Poland, the European Parliament, is not all about Aleksandr Lukashenko, human rights and democracy. It's all about geopolitics," the FM said

According to him, Moscow is alarmed by the attempts of external players to use the internal complexities of the republic to impose their own rules, TASS reported.

Lavrov hopes that Belarus will be able to independently sort out its internal political affairs.

The situation in Belarus should not be used to undermine the dialogue between its authorities and society, Lavrov said. He urged to make proposals for mediation of Belarus directly to the Belarusian leadership.
