YEREVAN. – The events in Belarus will most likely have little impact on Armenia; political technologist and analyst Karen Kocharyan stated this during a press conference on Thursday.

The events in Belarus will reflect on whole region, but depending on how the current situation will end, the analyst added.

As per Kocharyan, Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan's infamous congratulations to incumbent Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko on his reelection was more of a protocol, although the "Soros" wing launched a large-scale attack on the premier; true, there were several reasons, including the Amulsar gold mine project. "The events in Tavush [Province] forced those who demanded the withdrawal of the 102nd [Russian military] base [in Gyumri] to remain silent. But there is a problem within the halls of power," Kocharyan added.

According to him, Armenia has the smallest amount of trade with Belarus within the EEU, so the current events in Belarus will not affect Armenia economically either. “In this sense, we still use mainly the Russian market; the rest they strive for zero,” the analyst stated.

"The similarity with the events in Armenia, first of all, is that they [the Belarusians] are tired of one person. [But] unlike Armenia, the social situation [in Belarus] is better than it has been and is here [in Armenia]," said Kocharyan, adding that people get tired of one person even if it is good, and rotation is needed for the processes to be evolutionary, not revolutionary. "In general, the events in Belarus will not affect Armenia," the political scientist concluded.
