Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said the US threats against Russia and China amid situation with sanctions on Iran are unfounded, RIA Novosti reported.

Earlier US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo threatened Moscow and Beijing with consequences if they refuse to comply with the sanctions on Tehran restored by Washington via the UN.

“None of the threats that are already being heard from Washington that Russia and China should supposedly think about the consequences - in the usual American style - will change our position,” Ryabkov told RIA Novosti.

Last week, the UN Security Council did not support a US resolution to extend the arms embargo on Iran. Now, within the Iranian deal, the authorization procedure for the supply of military equipment to Iran is temporary and expires on October 18. Only the United States and the Dominican Republic voted for the resolution. Russia and China were against it. The remaining 11 members of the Security Council abstained.

Washington plans to renew sanctions despite the lack of consent of the Security Council members. Mike Pompeo will visit the UN headquarters in New York on August 20-21 and announce the decision of the American authorities. Washington intends to reinstate a number of restrictions, including a ban on arms supplies, which will be extended for 13 years.
