South Korea may impose strict social distancing measures in the country amid a spike in COVID-19 cases, TASS reported referring to Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun.

According to him, the number of new cases in the capital region is not decreasing, moreover, the infection is spreading in other regions of the country, and in unidentified ways.

Over the past week, over 100 COVID-19 cases have been recorded in South Korea every day.

To date, 17,002 COVID-19 cases have been recorded in South Korea, 14,169 patients have recovered, the death toll is 309. Since August 16, an increased level of social distancing measures has been in effect in the South Korean capital and neighboring Gyeonggi province amid a spike in COVID-19 cases.
