Head of the General Department for Defense Policies and International Cooperation at the Ministry of Defense of Armenia Levon Ayvazyan today received the delegation led by Head of the Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Armenia Claire Meytraud, as reported the Ministry of Defense.
During the meeting, the parties discussed issues related to the fate of officer of the Armenian army Gurgen Alaverdyan, who is in Azerbaijan.
Ayvazyan told Meytraud that the Ministry of Defense of Armenia is concerned about the videos about officer Gurgen Alaverdyan that Azerbaijani media outlets have been disseminating since August 23 and the content of those videos, which are a gross violation of the commitments that Azerbaijan has assumed within the framework of internationally enshrined rights, particularly within the scope of international humanitarian law.
Taking into consideration the working style that the Azerbaijani authorities have had for years, the Ministry of Defense addressed the ICRC to be more consistent with the protection of the rights of Armenians who are under the jurisdiction of Azerbaijan.
Meytraud assured that the Delegation of the ICRC is taking all necessary actions to ensure the procedures deriving from the status of Gurgen Alaverdyan.
