Iraqi President Barham Salih called on Turkey to stop violating the country's sovereignty. His remarks came during a meeting with French Defense Minister Florence Parley in Baghdad.
According to Salih, Turkey's violations of Iraqi sovereignty by means of military invasion should be stopped, Al Arabiya reported. He noted that Ankara's actions violate international law and undermine good-neighborly relations.
Parley is in Baghdad on a visit that is part of France's continued commitment to the fight against terrorism and its support for Iraqi sovereignty.
The minister said her country was ready to provide Iraqi security forces with training, ammunition and logistical support.
Salih and Parly discussed ways to further develop Iraqi-French relations and expand cooperation in all areas, especially in the field of security and military potential, and also exchanged views on regional and international developments.
In June, Turkey launched an air and ground offensive in various regions of northern Iraq, targeting the Kurdistan Workers' Party.
On August 11, the Iraqi military said an airstrike in northern Iraq killed two Iraqi border officials and their driver, calling the incident a flagrant attack by Turkish drones.
In response to the incident, Iraq canceled the planned visit of Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar, the Iraqi Foreign Ministry summoned the country's ambassador to convey him a letter of protest. Since June, senior Iraqi officials have repeatedly called on Turkey to halt its cross-border operations.
Yesterday Hulusi Akar said that the Turkish forces will continue military operations in northern Iraq until the last terrorist is neutralized.
