A record number of migrants arrived on the UK shores in a day, The Guardian reported.

At least 409 people reached the British shores in small boats on Wednesday, September 2, the report says. Hundreds of migrants were intercepted on the water, the rest managed to land on the beaches.

The previous record was recorded on August 6 this year, when 235 people arrived in the country. A total of 5,600 migrants arrived in the UK this year by sea, the newspaper notes.
