Washington promised Abu Dhabi not to support the spread of Israeli sovereignty to parts of the West Bank until 2024, TASS reported referring to The Times of Israel.

The US side's remarks came during talks on the normalization of ties between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Israel.

According to the newspaper, the UAE authorities received a commitment from Washington to refrain from supporting the Israeli annexation until at least January 2024. The newspaper notes that the peace plan of US President Donald Trump, unveiled in January 2020, provides the Palestinian side with a four-year window to join the settlement process. It was this time that was taken as a basis when Abu Dhabi received assurances from the US administration on Israeli plans to annex parts of the West Bank, The Times of Israel reported.

On August 13, Trump announced that Israel and the UAE had reached an agreement to fully normalize bilateral relations. According to the agreements, Israel will suspend the extension of its sovereignty to Jewish settlements in the West Bank of the Jordan River, which is provided for by the US plan for the settlement of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Later that day, the head of the White House said at a press conference that the extension of Israel's sovereignty to the West Bank was not discussed now, removed from the agenda and that Israel agreed not to do this, which is a big concession from the Jewish state.

Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu last summer already said he would not expand the sovereignty of the Jewish state in parts of the West Bank without first securing American support. That is why the UAE was focused on obtaining US guarantees on this issue, and not the Israeli, The Times of Israel added.
