The Collective Security Treaty Organization expresses serious concern over the tragic incident that took place in Armenia as a result of which a Russian helicopter was downed. This is what Spokesperson of the CSTO Vladimir Zaynetdinov told RIA Novosti.

“We really regret that the escalation of the conflict [in Nagorno-Karabakh] led to such sad consequences. We express serious concern over the happening and express condolences to the families and close ones of the pilots. We will wait for the results of the inquest and to see from which side the gunshot was fired,” Zaynetdinov said, adding that the CSTO has made several calls for ceasefire.

Earlier, a Russian Mi-24 helicopter was downed in the airspace of Armenia (near the border with Azerbaijan) with Man-portable air-defense system. The helicopter fell in the mountainous area of Armenia, two pilots died. Baku has admitted that it shot down the helicopter “by mistake”.
