Russian Military Police units are included in the peacekeepers that are sent to Nagorno-Karabakh [(Artsakh)], said Sergey Rudskoy, Chief of the Main Operational Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, RIA Novosti reported.
"Military Police units, which are part of the peacekeeping contingent, will also perform tasks in the area of the peacekeeping operation. They will patrol along the line of contact of the parties, escort convoys and cargo," Rudskoy said at a briefing on Wednesday.
"A command of the peacekeeping force has been set up to manage the operation, which [the command] includes officers with extensive experience in managing troops during armed clashes," he added.
Sergey Rudskoy reminded that the relocation of Russian peacekeeping forces from Russia to Armenia began on Tuesday morning.
