Former Prime Minister of Moldova Maia Sandu, the leader of the opposition Party of Action and Solidarity, has won the presidential election in the country. This is evidenced by the data of the Central Electoral Commission data published on Sunday night, Interfax reports.

After counting 98 percent of the votes, Sandu has received 54 percent of the ballots, whereas her opponent, incumbent Igor Dodon, 45 percent.

The votes of about 50 polling stations abroad remain to be count, and this difference will only increase, as the Moldovan Diaspora votes mostly in favor of Sandu.

The final results will be announced after the polls close in the United States and Canada on Monday and the votes are counted.

But the current president of Moldova, Igor Dodon, has not accepted his defeat yet.
