YEREVAN. – The National Assembly (NA) of Armenia on Thursday convened a special session—with the agenda initiated by the government.

There are two matters on the agenda: The bill on the ratification of the letter-agreement on the extension of the disbursement period of the Caucasus Power Transmission Network III - Armenia-Georgia Transmission Line/Substations loan agreement and its modified repayment schedule; and the bill on addenda to the Law on Military Service and Status of Servicemen.

But only the MPs of the ruling My Step faction are in the NA Sessions’ Hall. The opposition Prosperous Armenia and Bright Armenia factions have not participated in these sittings for two days already. They have stated that solely one matter can be debated on in parliament at the moment: the resignation of the Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

On November 9, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, and Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a joint statement on a complete cessation of hostilities in and around Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh). Accordingly, Russian peacekeepers will be deployed in the region to monitor the implementation of the ceasefire and the cessation of hostilities. But this statement also stipulates the handover of part of Artsakh lands to Azerbaijan.
