YEREVAN. - A rally of the oppositional Armenian National Congress (ANC) kicked off in Liberty Square of Yerevan at 7:20 p.m. local time. The event is authorized by Yerevan City Hall, the Armenian News-NEWS.am correspondent reported.

Supporters of ANC leader Levon Ter-Petrosyan will celebrate an important victory – amnesty declared by the Armenian parliament under which ANC key activists former MP Sasun Mikaelyan and newspaper editor Nikol Pashinyan were released.

First President of Armenia and ANC leader Levon Ter-Petrosyan, head of People’s Party of Armenia Stepan Demirchyan, chairman of Republic party’s political council, ex-premier Aram Sargsyan, chairman of Armenian National Movement board Aram Manukyan and heads of other parties, members of the opposition bloc, are on the platform.

Nikol Pashinyan is one of key participants of the rally. In his opening speech Pashinyan noted that “release of political prisoners was a result of continuous struggle”.

The opposition plans to march in Yerevan streets at the end of the rally.

The Armenian National Congress is an oppositional union founded in 2008 and leaded by first president of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrosyan. Oppositional union comprises 17 political parties.
