I advise you to not wait for miracles since it is simply impossible when there is modest funding for science and education. This is what Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Armenia Vahram Dumanyan said during today’s parliamentary hearings devoted to the topic of “Science as a Pillar for Security and Development”.

Moreover, the minister admitted that Armenia didn’t face any problems with funding during the Soviet era.

“The Soviet Union would invest unlimited resources and would place major orders for scientists, including in the military industry and space travel. Yes, there was free education since the government would reimburse the expenses. Today, Armenia can’t stay true to this tradition. So, we provide paid services. There are several dozens of universities, but serious steps need to be taken to solve this issue,” Dumanyan said, adding that even though there are serious, motivated and educated young people in Armenia, they are very few in number, and most of the young people who study well go on to become good specialists and leave for abroad in search of high-paying jobs.
