Leading advisers to the US and Turkish Presidents Joe Biden and Recep Tayyip Erdogan had a telephone conversation—the first official contact between the two countries ever since Biden took office, Anadolu reported.

Ibrahim Kalin, Erdogan's chief foreign policy adviser, and Jake Sullivan, US National Security Adviser, discussed several issues, including Nagorno-Karabakh [(Artsakh)].

Kalin told Sullivan that joint efforts were needed to resolve the differences between the two countries.

And in a statement following the meeting, the White House said Sullivan underscores the Biden administration's desire to forge "constructive" relations between the US and Turkey, but also noted their differences.
