Armenia’s opposition Homeland Salvation Movement has made some videos presenting episodes from the political path and struggle of ex-Prime Minister Vazgen Manukyan, the movement's joint candidate PM.

One of these videos reports that on April 24, 1967, Manukyan, who was then studying at Moscow State University, organized a protest—with a group of friends—in front of the Turkish embassy in Moscow, on the anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. The demonstration was unprecedented and received a great reaction in the then Soviet Union, after which Vazgen Manukyan was expelled from the university; this was the beginning of his political activity.

Another video reports that during the years of the Soviet Union, then Catholicos of All Armenians Vazgen I had proposed a group of young Armenians who were active in national issues, and with whom he had become quite close, to "save" several Armenian cross-stones in the Azerbaijani exclave of Nakhchivan. The Catholicos was concerned that the existence of these cross-stones was endangered, especially in Azerbaijan. Vazgen Manukyan was one of these active youth, under whose leadership several young people managed to relocate a number of valuable cross-stones from Nakhchivan to Armenia in 1971.
