Prime Minister of Greece Kyriakos Mitsotakis has made an announcement about declaring a lockdown in Athens and nearby areas in order to stop the rise in the number of coronavirus cases and mitigate the pressure on overloaded healthcare services.

The new restrictions will include the closure of secondary stores and schools starting from February 11 and ending in late February.

Over the past day, Greece reported 1,526 coronavirus cases, which is twice as high as the indicator of the previous day.
