Member of the Security and Foreign Policy Council of the Staff of the President of Turkey Ismayil Safi told RIA Novosti that Ankara doesn’t intend to submit to Washington’s demands to renounce the S-400 air defense systems that it has purchased from the Russian Federation.

“There are still no agreements on the S-400s with the US. The US demands renouncing deployment of the S-400 missile systems, but Turkey isn’t preparing to accept this,” RIA Novosti’s interlocutor said, adding that Turkey’s goal is to manufacture its own air defense systems and that this is a matter of national security for the country.

“Of course, since Turkey is a NATO member state, it is natural to expect that it can receive what it needs from its allies. However, the US wasn’t sincere. So, Turkey reached an agreement with Russia, which sincerely showed its friendship. We are still negotiating with Russia over the supply of a new consignment of S-400 missile systems,” Safi added.
