In an interview with Armenian News-NEWS.am, Chief of Staff of the President of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) Artak Beglaryan said Russian peacekeepers are carrying out construction works in the area near the airport in Stepanakert with Artsakh’s permission.

Asked if the construction works are linked to runways or terminals and other facilities of the airport, Beglaryan stated that there are different types of works.

In an interview with Armenian News-NEWS.am, Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies at the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia, Turkologist Ruben Safrastyan said Turkey and Azerbaijan aren’t interested in Russia operating the airport in Stepanakert and will do everything they can to obstruct the process.

“Turkey will particularly obstruct the process through Azerbaijan since Baku must give permission for operation. Of course, the implementation of this idea is of great significance for Moscow since this will help establish a direct connection between the peacekeepers in Artsakh and Russia,” he explained and stated that if we analyze Turkey’s policy in the long run, it is safe to conclude that it won’t make concessions, is leading a coarse policy and is trying to take advantage of this or that situation for its interests.
