EU governments should be on their guard against scammers offering fake COVID-19 vaccines, the EU's anti-fraud office said.

The EU plans to vaccinate 70% of the adult population by the end of the summer. This is a daunting task - this year's vaccination campaign has been hit by delays and supply disruptions, Reuters reported.

The European Anti-Fraud Office said it is aware of reports of scammers trying to sell vaccines in the EU, including offering fake ones.

The office said it is expanding its investigation of counterfeit COVID-19 protection products to combat the illegal trade in vaccines coming from illegal imports, as well as counterfeit medicines.

Since its investigation began in March last year, OLAF said it has identified over 1,000 suspicious transactions and seized over 14 million items, including faulty face masks and fake tests.
