The trilateral statement on Nagorno-Karabakh signed on November 10, 2020 became “the recognition of Armenia’s capitulation” and allowed Azerbaijan “to retrieve the Lachin (Kashatagh) and Kalbajar (Karvachar) regions”. This is what President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said during a visit to Kashatagh.
“During the negotiations, they never wanted to return the Lachin and Kalbajar regions to us. This was the main reason for lack of an agreement during the negotiations. Unfortunately, Armenia and its several foreign sponsors were aspiring for the return of five regions to Azerbaijan, Azerbaijan was satisfied with this, Nagorno-Karabakh would receive independence, and the Kalbajar and Lachin regions would stay under the control of Armenia forever, but I declined this offer,” he said.
