The Office of Human Rights Defender of Armenia Arman Tatoyan is studying the statement of the National Security Service on the written permission of national security bodies for media outlets to carry out their activities in Syunik Province. This is what the Office of the Human Rights Defender reported in response to an inquiry from Armenian News-NEWS.am, adding the following:

“The visits of the Human Rights Defender to Syunik and Gegharkunik Provinces, the study and monitoring of the complaints from residents of those provinces show that the borders with Azerbaijan are being determined through mechanical approaches, in consequence of which the rights (to life, property, etc.) of the residents living on the border, which are guaranteed internationally and by the Constitution of Armenia, are at risk or have been violated.

According to the Human Rights Defender, cartographers, geodesists, military specialists and specialists of other sectors, as well as historians need to be engaged in the process of determining the borders, and it is necessary to set up committees on the spot. The Office of the Human Rights Defender has summed up the results of the visits to the provinces and sent letters to the competent authorities.”
