Netherlands court has ordered the government to immediately lift the night curfew imposed to curb the COVID-19 spread.

According to the ruling, there is no proper legal basis for this, Reuters reported.

The curfew, imposed on 23 January, sparked protests that escalated into riots.

The court said the government did not clarify why the curfew was absolutely necessary at this stage of the pandemic, as infection rates in the Netherlands were already declining before the measure took effect.
