The Australian federal government will stop using Facebook for advertising campaigns and social projects due to restrictions imposed by the company for all users in the country, ABC reported referring to Minister of Trade, Tourism and Investments Simon Birmingham.

The government has urged Facebook to recognize that it needs to behave like any other content publisher.

Last week Facebook restricted the distribution of news content in Australia due to the introduction of new legislation on media transactions. The Australian government is proposing to oblige tech giants to negotiate content payments with local publishers and broadcasters.
