Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili considers that the visit of Armenian Catholicos Karekin II to Georgia is a historical event.

The visit is a continuation of centuries-old historical relations between the nations, said spokesperson for Georgian president Manana Manjgaladze, Georgia Online reports.

Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II arrived on a three-day pontific visit to Georgia on June 10. He met with Georgian Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II. His Holiness Karekin II also visited the region of Javakhk.

Spiritual leaders reached agreement to start work on solving disputable issues, in particular legal status of Armenian and Georgian churches in both states.
