Armenian President Armen Sarkissian sent a congratulatory message to His Holiness Pope Francis on the occasion of the anniversary of his election as High Priest of Rome.

 "Relations between Armenia and the Holy See are based on historical ties, on a great spiritual and cultural heritage, which are a solid foundation for enriching the bilateral agenda and taking practical steps to deepen cooperation," he noted.

"I confirm the interest and commitment of Armenia to the further development of interstate relations with the Holy See," Sarkissian added.

"Thank you for your Holiness's prayers and messages of peace in this difficult time for us, which warmed our hearts and souls.

We wish that the Ecumenical Church will continue to successfully fulfill its cherished mission in favor of establishing peace and solidarity throughout the world," Sarkissian noted.
