YEREVAN. – Stepan Galstyan will continue to carry out the duties of the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces for at least another five days. Andranik Kocharyan, chair of the Standing Committee on Defense and Security in the National Assembly of Armenia, an MP of the ruling My Step bloc, said this at Monday’s meeting of the committee.

Commenting on the proposal by the opposition Prosperous Armenia and Bright Armenia Parties to lift the current martial law in the country, Kocharyan "assured" that sooner or later it will be lifted. At the same time, in his opinion, it would be right if the parliamentary opposition factions first inquired about the opinion of the Ministry of Defense on this issue.

Thus, as Kocharyan noted, at present there is no Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces in Armenia, and Lieutenant General Stepan Galstyan will carry out the respective duties for at least five days. "But, ultimately, there is a defense minister whose opinion needs to be known," Andranik Kocharyan added.
