Mauritania has restored diplomatic ties with Qatar - 4 years after the break. The foreign ministers of both countries held talks in Doha on the resumption of relations.

After intense contacts last week and with very strong support from the Sultanate of Oman, Mauritania and Qatar have decided to resume diplomatic relations, the Mauritanian state news agency quoted the Foreign Ministry as saying.

The ministers considered bilateral cooperation and the resumption of diplomatic relations between the two brotherly countries, the Qatar news agency tweeted.

Mauritania severed ties with Qatar in 2017 over accusations of supporting terrorists, following the lead of other Arab powers, including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain.
