Protesters blocked the central streets of Beirut, and they closed off—with burning tires—the highway connecting the center of the Lebanese capital with its airport, RIA Novosti reported.

Also, groups of youth burned trash bins and tires near the Central Bank building and in several other parts of Beirut.

The unrest resumed after it became known that the latest meeting between Prime Minister Saad Hariri and President Michel Aoun over the formation of a new government was unproductive.

After the failure of these negotiations, the Lebanese pound also began to fall, and in just a few hours its exchange rate against the US dollar dropped by 2,300 Lebanese pounds, and now 1 USD can be bought on the Lebanese "black market" for 14,000 Lebanese pounds.
