Chairperson of the Russian Federation Council, Valentina Matviyenko, has called for maintaining the fragile peace in the Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) conflict zone, TASS reports.

"The important thing now is to avoid harsh statements, to support the fragile peace, and to move towards a final settlement [of the conflict] and an end to tensions in the region," she said. "Not only Armenia and Azerbaijan need this, but also Russia and regional states."

Also, Matviyenko noted the important role of the Russian peacekeepers in the Karabakh conflict zone. "The important thing is to stop the bloodshed and get the dialogue into a peaceful political course; that is the victory of common sense. Now it is important to continue the dialogue," she stressed.
