YEREVAN. – Armenian Ministry of Economics has arranged a visit to “TOSP” knit fabric factory for journalists on Monday.
Light industry has always been one of the most perspective branches in Armenia. However, it has to struggle for taking away Turkish and Chinese goods from Armenian market. “TOSP” is one of those factories.
There are more than 100 women workers with average salary of AMD 50.000 to 60.000 ($135-$160). At the same time, according to official data, average salary for manufacture industry is AMD 110.000 ($300). One of the reasons of low salary in light industry in Armenia may be that Armenian market is full of cheap knit fabric from overseas.
“TOSP” factory provides several advantages, despite low salary, compared to private companies, where salary is twice higher, the factory manager Suren Bakinski explained. Particularly, there is fix working hours, workers are paid during holidays and there is a medical center.
