The main goal of this discussion is the urgent demand for the unconditional release of all Armenian prisoners of war, military, and civilians detained during and after the last war between Armenia and Azerbaijan, MEP Andrey Kovatchev said in the European Parliament.

According to him, Baku should refrain from any arbitrary detention in the future and fully comply with the tripartite ceasefire statement, which provides for the exchange of prisoners of war and all detainees.

Despite the different definitions that Azerbaijan uses to represent prisoners as criminals or terrorists, they are all protected by the Geneva Convention and international humanitarian law and should be returned to their families, he said.

Azerbaijan should help the ECHR to provide reliable information about the detainees and their well-being. Baku should refrain from cruel treatment and any humiliation of these people, the MEP said, calling for an independent investigation.

Baku should also close the Trophy Park, which displays humiliating and inhuman wax figures of Armenian soldiers, he added.
